We were all away together on a family holiday last week and managed to watch the GBBO together for the first time in a long time! I don’t think any of us were particularly keen to make these having seen the curd cheese being made, but when we looked at the recipe it actually sounded pretty good. So on Sunday afternoon Emily and I had a go at making them. Click here to see how we got on.

This week on the Bake Off it was biscuit week. Some of the showstoppers were amazing – I have chickens so I was very tempted to try to create a biscuit Chicken! But I’ve stuck with the technical challenge this week which was fig rolls, something I haven’t had for years.

It’s that time of year again – ready… steady… bake! As with previous years we’re going to attempt all the technical challenges (assuming that they don’t involve buying random equipment/ingredients). This week was cake week and I was really pleased to see that the technical challenge was exactly that – a technical challenge which tested the bakers ability to make a Genoise sponge and Italian meringue buttercream. In a mad rush yesterday I thought I would try and squeeze in this weeks technical challenge before we went away on holiday and it meant that we had some baked goodies to eat while we’re away. Click here to see how I got on making the fortune cookies.

Click here to see if I rose to the challenge.

I was intrigued about this weeks technical challenge. It didn’t seem to bear any resemblance to anything I’d made in the past. It certainly wasn’t like any pastry recipes I’d tried. I can see why the bakers got confused – it felt like it belonged in bread week rather than pastry week! What to know what a flaouna is?

Last night, was my last opportunity to try the technical GBBO challenge before this week’s bake off. So, I decided to give it a go. I read through the recipe a few times before I started and it didn’t seem that difficult, just quite time consuming. However, they turned out to be trickier than I thought, even with the full instructions (which seemed half complete to me so I don’t know what the contestants got given)! Click here to see how I got on.

It’s that time of year again – the Great British Bake Off has started and each Wednesday evening we can look forward to some baking entertainment on TV! Last year we tried to make a few of the technical challenges, but we ran out of time, so this year between the two of us, we are hoping to attempt most of them. This week it was Mary Berry’s frosted walnut layer cake. Click here to see how I got on.

IMG_0937AWe are massive fans of the Great British Bake Off and I keep meaning to have a go at some of the technical challenges to see just how hard they are. So when my parents came to visit and bought along loads of home grown pears I thought I would take the opportunity to challenge my Mum and myself to have a go at baking Paul Hollywood’s mini pear pies. Want to find out who the Glover pear pie champion is?!
