Having had a very busy first 2 weeks of the Easter holidays, the girls were very insistent that I made an Easter cake and despite having very limited time, I couldn’t say no! I wanted to make a simnel cake, but I was keen to try a new recipe. Click here to keep reading.
Once again I didn’t get round to putting up photos of the Easter cake I made 2 years ago. I wanted to make something quick and easy as well as something that the girls would love too. Click here to see some more photos of this funny cake.
As usual, I struggled to find time to sit down and upload pics of the cakes and baking I’ve been doing. Probably because I’m spending all my time in the kitchen cooking! So here is the super silly Easter cake I made last year, as well as the delicious recipe I used – chocolate, cherry and hazelnut Simnel cake. Click here to see some more pics and the recipe.
I was asked to create a cake for one of the Mum’s from Chloe’s old pre-school for her new baby daughters Christening. She had several ideas but was undecided on exactly what she wanted. So I designed a cake based on a few separate ideas that hopefully ticked all the boxes! Click here to see more pics of this gorgeous girly cake.
Just over a week ago it was Chloe’s first Birthday! I decided to do a frog themed cake and mini party for her, Emily was so excited! I spent a long time on Pinterest looking at frog cakes for some inspiration and then on Facebook I spotted a YouTube video from The Little Cherry Cake Company on how to make a frog cake, so I had a look and thought I would give it a go, it is definitely the cutest froggy cake I had seen. A couple of weeks ago it was my niece Alice’s Christening and I was very excited to be making the cake for her. I’m not managing to fit much baking or cake decorating in at the moment so it was really nice to have a small cake project to work on! Tams asked for something with butterflies, so we looked at loads of designs and decided on the additions of some painted grass and flowers in pinks and purples and a small grey bunny too. It definitely feels like spring has arrived this week with some gorgeous sunshine and lovely warm weather! So I thought I should upload some photos of these pretty cupcakes. I made them a couple of years ago and have made several similar versions since as the flowers are very easy to make and look really good on top of the cupcakes. Click here to see the recipe and how to make the flower.
It’s been a while since I made some cupcakes, especially ones that were an usual flavour and not just vanilla/chocolate with decorations on. So when I decided to go down to London for the afternoon to meet my best friend’s baby, I offered to make some cupcakes to take. I’ve already got a lot of rhubarb (I’ve made rhubarb and raspberry Frangipane tart, rhubarb crumble muffins, and I still have about 750g left!) so I decided to bake something with rhubarb. Click here to see how to make them.
I’ve always wanted to have a go at making fondant fancies and a few weeks ago it was my friend Karen’s 30th Birthday and all the food for the party was kids party themed, so this was the perfect opportunity to give them a go. I definitely need a lot more practise as they aren’t the easiest thing to make, but I had a bit of fun trying them out. The party food was great – I can’t remember the last time I had Skips or cheese and pineapple on sticks – amazing! Click here for the recipe.
It’s been a gorgeous week, full of spring sunshine so I couldn’t resist making some spring cupcakes as a present for Matt and Beckie who looked after Emily on Saturday while Rich and I were at a wedding. Click here to find out how to make these little bugs.
