I was very tempted this week to have a go at an illusion biscuit bake, but realised it would take far too long, so settled for doing the technical again and you can’t beat a good custard cream! I baked with the girls again on Saturday but due to how long these took to chill and cut out I had to finish them off after bed time, but it meant we had a big box to take with us to the rugby festival on Sunday and share with the team. We were all very excited for the start of the new series of the Great British Bake Off last week. And even more excited when we found out the technical challenge was the iconic chocolate cake with the missing raspberry! We had no plans for Sunday afternoon so it was the perfect opportunity to give this a go with the girls. Click here to see how we got on.

I’d love to have more time to try some patisserie stuff, I love watching Bake Off the Professionals and seeing some of the amazing patisserie things they do. It’s all so precise and they have lots of clever equipment too! These deserts were perfectly timed with Rich’s Birthday, so they made a tasty treat for pudding on Saturday night. I always try to anticipate what the technical challenge is each week to make sure I have the ingredients delivered in our online shop on Monday night or have planned to incorporate it into the weekly meal plan. It looked like the bakers were stir frying vegetables and the only thing I could think of using pastry and stir fried veg were spring rolls. We love spring rolls, but I wasn’t really feeling very enthusiastic about making them, I think it was the thought of rolling out the super thin pastry dough. Click here to keep reading.

Halloween week might have been a week early on the GBBO, but we definitely didn’t mind and couldn’t wait to make the s’mores! Rich and the girls love marshmallows and I haven’t made any for ages, so perfect excuse! Keep reading to see how amazing these are.

We were really looking forward to dessert week on the Bake Off, especially having seen the clip the week before showing the very limited instructions for making a lemon meringue pie. I honestly don’t think I have ever made a lemon meringue pie before, but I’ve made plenty of pastry, curd and meringue, so I was hoping it was going to be fairly straightforward. I was very excited to hear that they were doing a Mexican Week this year in GBBO, I love Mexican food! I have made tacos before and actually still had some of the yellow corn flour left. So I planned to make these for our dinner on Saturday night, perfect weekend food. Click here to see how we got on.

We were very much looking forward to bread week! We eat a lot of bread in our house, I bake bread anywhere between 2-6 times a week. Up until a few years ago I rarely made bread as Rich didn’t really eat gluten so had had very little bread making experience. But now Rich is eating it again and I am totally addicted to bread making. I had Chloe as my little helper this week, click here to see how we got on.

This week was biscuit week on the GBBO and we really enjoyed the episode. I loved the idea of making a biscuit mask and might try it one day with the girls, I think they would really enjoy decorating their own masks. I have never made garibaldi biscuit so we were looking forward to trying them out. Click here to see how we got on.
