A couple of years ago we hosted Christmas with my sister-in-law, hubby and our nephew, I wanted to make a chocolate log but really wanted to make something slightly different. One of my favourite flavours is chocolate orange which feels like quite a Christmassy flavour, so I adapted a chocolate log recipe and this was the result! Click here to find out more.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJust over a month ago it was Emily’s 3rd Birthday. Being a typical 3 year old she was changing her mind every day about what kind of party and cake she wanted, slightly tricky when trying to plan things! Her favourite cuddly toy is her panda and so when I suggested that she had a panda themed party and cake, she seemed very excited and the idea stuck, phew! She takes after both her Aunties with her love of pandas. She asked for the cake to have a Mummy panda, a Daddy panda and and Emily panda on as well as some bamboo, so I did a bit of research and came up with a design. I was really pleased when I saw what the technical challenge was last week – it’s been ages since I’ve made something like that and I couldn’t wait to try it! The only downside was that it’s pretty big (it’s huge!) and I was on my own for the weekend. Luckily I had a cross-country race and my team mates were more than happy to help me eat it up!

We haven’t managed as much Christmas baking this year, but I did make a few Christmas goodies this week for Emily’s nursery. I had a lot of homemade mincemeat to use and decided to make a mince pie alternative. Click  here to try this recipe.

PC084580.JPGThis year I decided to try something very different for my Christmas cake, rather than doing something traditional I thought I would do something silly! I’d seen a photo of a turkey cake and thought I would try something similar. I also wanted to try a different flavoured Christmas cake but still wanted it to be a fruit cake so it would keep. Click  here to try out this yummy recipe.

Hopefully this will be the first of many Christmas baking blogs this year and as usual there are so many scrummy looking recipes to try out it’s going to be hard to narrow it down. As it’s the last Met League before Christmas I couldn’t resist making some red and gold Christmas cupcakes for the Serpie runners. We haven’t been to any xc races yet this season as we now live quite far away and Rich injured his knee recently which has meant he can’t run at the moment. But after 4 years of not being able to run because of a back injury, I am now able to run 6km so I am very excited to be able to take part! Click  here to try out our first Christmas recipe.

I was really looking forward to making this weeks technical challenge – I love peanut butter! We invited our friends Matt and Beckie over for dinner on Saturday night and I planned to do the technical challenge for pudding,  no pressure then…

P9023101.JPGWe are both very excited that the Great British Bake Off has started again! And despite the move to Channel 4 we were pleased to see that the format is exactly the same and although we miss Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, the new presenters did a great job. So it’s now time to start trying all the technical bakes again! It has got off to a good start, chocolate mini rolls looked like a great challenge and something I haven’t made before. Click  here to see how I got on.
