It’s been a while since I made some cupcakes, especially ones that were an usual flavour and not just vanilla/chocolate with decorations on. So when I decided to go down to London for the afternoon to meet my best friend’s baby, I offered to make some cupcakes to take. I’ve already got a lot of rhubarb (I’ve made rhubarb and raspberry Frangipane tart, rhubarb crumble muffins, and I still have about 750g left!) so I decided to bake something with rhubarb. We haven’t managed as much Christmas baking this year, but I did make a few Christmas goodies this week for Emily’s nursery. I had a lot of homemade mincemeat to use and decided to make a mince pie alternative. Click here to try this recipe.

This year I decided to try something very different for my Christmas cake, rather than doing something traditional I thought I would do something silly! I’d seen a photo of a turkey cake and thought I would try something similar. I also wanted to try a different flavoured Christmas cake but still wanted it to be a fruit cake so it would keep. Hopefully this will be the first of many Christmas baking blogs this year and as usual there are so many scrummy looking recipes to try out it’s going to be hard to narrow it down. As it’s the last Met League before Christmas I couldn’t resist making some red and gold Christmas cupcakes for the Serpie runners. We haven’t been to any xc races yet this season as we now live quite far away and Rich injured his knee recently which has meant he can’t run at the moment. But after 4 years of not being able to run because of a back injury, I am now able to run 6km so I am very excited to be able to take part! Click here to try out our first Christmas recipe.

I can’t believe that this years bake off has now finished! I really enjoyed watching it and thought the new presenters were great and I was really pleased with the result, Sophie throughly deserved to win! I’m actually feeling quite relieved that all the technical challenges are now done and I can start to think about Christmas baking. So here is my attempt at the iced ginger biscuits.

This week was caramel week on the Great British Bake Off and I was intrigued to see what the technical challenge would be. I didn’t watch it live but Becky text me after it finished and asked if I fancied buying an ice cream waffle cone maker – I was intrigued! Since neither of us own one, and Becky said she wouldn’t use it (it’s a bit hard to make them gluten free) I said I was happy to buy it but asked her to order it for me since I was away and worried it wouldn’t arrive in time. When I got back on Thursday it was waiting for me! Click here to see how I got on.

We are both very excited that the Great British Bake Off has started again! And despite the move to Channel 4 we were pleased to see that the format is exactly the same and although we miss Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, the new presenters did a great job. So it’s now time to start trying all the technical bakes again! It has got off to a good start, chocolate mini rolls looked like a great challenge and something I haven’t made before. Click here to see how I got on.

It was our parents 40th wedding anniversary on the 30th July so not surprisingly Em and I decided to make them a cake as a present! Celebrating 40 years of marriage is a wonderful occasion, so it had to be a very special cake for two very special people. Click here to see some more pics and the yummy chocolate fruit cake recipe we used.
