Last weekend I went to the wedding of Rob and Sian – Sian and I grew up in the same village and we’ve known each other since we were about 3 years old. As well as being invited to the wedding, I got to make the cake. Tom and I had a great time at the wedding – everything about the day was perfect. Keep reading.

Time for GBBO technical challenge number 2! I love Viennese whirls, the biscuits just melt in your mouth, so I was really pleased with this weeks challenge. I have made them before, but probably about 10 years ago, so it’s nice to give them a go again. Click here to find out how I got on.

In case you missed it, the Great British Bake Off started again last week! Becky and I both really enjoyed trying the technical challenges last year so we’ve decided we’ll be doing them again this year. Last year we took it in turns to make them each week but we both decided we wanted to try the technical challenge from cake week – Jaffa Cakes!

For the last two weeks I’ve been lacking sleep. Partly because of the Olympics (why do most of the finals have to be in the middle of the night?!) and partly due to being at a hen do last weekend for one of my friends, Sian. These Olympic themed cupcakes were for Sian’s hen do. We had a mini Olympics during the day on Saturday so I decided that some themed cupcakes would help re-fuel the athletes! May was a busy month for cakes, so I didn’t get round to writing about any of them or putting any photos up. So now things are a little quieter (well for five minutes at least) I thought I would put some photos up of the coolest cake I made in May! Click here to see more photos of this crazy cake.

I’ve made a few cakes for one of our friends, Martin, but this is probably my favourite. When I asked what cake he wanted, Jen, his wife, said he loves Marvel Comics and the Hulk is his favourite. Other than that I had free reign to chose what to make. These are my favourite kind of cakes. After a search on Pinterest I found a few ideas I liked and decided to merge them all into one cake. A couple of months ago I made my first wedding cake of 2016 and the first since little Emily arrived. The design that Helen and Nick came up with was quite dramatic and worked beautifully with the theme of their wedding. Helen is English, so the cake had some large red roses and Nick is from New Zealand, so some ferns were also included in the design. Click here to see some more pics of this stand out cake.

Last year a friend at work asked if I’d be able to make a birthday cake for one of her friends. However when she said she wanted a sugar skull on it, I had no idea what she was on about and was worried that if agreed to make something I wouldn’t be able to do! Click here to find out how I made it.

I’ve always wanted to have a go at making fondant fancies and a few weeks ago it was my friend Karen’s 30th Birthday and all the food for the party was kids party themed, so this was the perfect opportunity to give them a go. I definitely need a lot more practise as they aren’t the easiest thing to make, but I had a bit of fun trying them out. The party food was great – I can’t remember the last time I had Skips or cheese and pineapple on sticks – amazing! Click here for the recipe.

It’s been a gorgeous week, full of spring sunshine so I couldn’t resist making some spring cupcakes as a present for Matt and Beckie who looked after Emily on Saturday while Rich and I were at a wedding. Click here to find out how to make these little bugs.
