???????????????????????????????Last Christmas Tom gave me some great presents. One of them was a “Hello Cupcake” calendar. I have the Hello, Cupcake! and What’s New Cupcake? books and I love the fun ideas in them…. and the calendar has 12 new ideas for me to try! So I have decided that each month I will make the cupcakes for that month. January’s cupcakes were shoes, which I’d already made in December (got a bit ahead of myself there – maybe I’m psychic?!) so the first ones to make were the ones for February. Could you eat a dragon? If so, keep reading….

21st birthday cakes for Jodie

Last week I had a week from hell at work – 60 hours worth of hell. However, I’d agreed a while ago to make these cakes for a friend in the office. I didn’t want to let her down so last Thursday evening I somehow managed to fit in making them. They had to be pastel pinks, purples and white, some with 21’s on, some with Jodie’s on and some with both on so I came up with a design I wanted to do. However, I was too tired to make them exactly as planned – I guess I’ll just have to save that design for another time.

cookie monster cupcake

I only started this blog at the end of September 2012 but I’d done a lot of baking before that – I hadn’t realised quite how much until I started drafting this post. Although I’ve manged to post some of the things I made at the start of the year, I doubt they’ll all make it onto here in their entirety. So, here’s a summary of my favourite ones from each month….

fire breathing dragon

About a year ago I was lacking inspiration for what I could bake one week. For some reason I decided to ask Jamie for ideas. He said I should make “a giant popping candy cake with a dragon on top”. I laughed and said I wanted serious suggestions! But then when I got home, and I realised I didn’t have anything else to do that evening, I thought why not try making a dragon out of icing. After I’d made one I decided it was quite cute so had a go at making another…. and after a couple of nights I had a small family of dragons!

happy birthday cupcakes

Last week the other batch of cupcakes I made were these – happy birthday ones for Sarah. These weren’t what I intended to make but I didn’t have the ingredients I needed for the decoration and Tom had gone out for the night with our only set of house keys so I couldn’t leave the house! In the end, I was pretty pleased with them and I think Sarah enjoyed them too (even if we were all completely stuffed have eaten a massive curry just before!).

Need to make some birthday cakes? If so, click here.

love hearts leaving cupcakes

It’s been a while since I made cupcakes, but like buses, two cupcake-making occasions came along at once last week so I spent Thursday night making cupcakes – firstly some leaving cupcakes, then some birthday ones. These are the leaving ones. I decided I wanted to make some which would say “miss you” or “goodbye” so I chose to make biscuits to go on top decorated as Love Hearts. Click here to find out how to make them.

reindeer cupcake

Here’s the next creation ticked off my Christmas baking list – Reindeer cupcakes. I saw these in What’s New Cupcake and I wanted to make them straight away, but making them in the middle of summer wouldn’t really have been appropriate. So I had to wait. I’ve actually made them already this year – when my sister came to stay a couple of weeks ago we invited the family over for coffee and cake on Sunday morning so these were one of the things we made then. We even made a gingerbread sleigh and a Santa cupcake to go with it – I didn’t have time to make all of that last night though! Do you want to make Rudolph and his friends?

Shoe Cupcakes

DSCF8369Where do I start? This weekend my sister Becky came up to stay and we had a non-stop baking weekend so I’ve got so many things to blog about. I’m going to start with these shoes. Our first baking project was to make a cake for Kiri’s birthday party on Saturday night. Kiri LOVES shoes so when she asked me to make a birthday cake for her I knew exactly what I would make. I’d seen a photo of cupcake shoes on this website ages ago and I’d been looking for a reason to make them – Kiri’s birthday was the perfect occasion. Fancy some edible Jimmy Choos?

Last week, I played in a uni hockey tournament after work. The day before I asked people in the office what flavour cupcakes I should make to keep us going. James suggested “Lucozade” and Kiri suggested “half time orange” cupcakes. So I went with Orangeade – I bought a sample pack of Soda Stream syrups when I made some Cola cupcakes a while ago and I hadn’t used any of the other flavours yet so I decided to give the orange one a go. Toblerone Cupcakes

In the office, if you go on holiday you’re meant to bring back “goodies” from wherever you go. On Thursday I headed over to Germany to see Tom and then as a surprise took him to Prague for the weekend for his 30th birthday! I’ve been away for nearly a week and I left the country so in theory I should probably have brought something back. However, I didn’t. Instead, I made these Toblerone cupcakes with a giant Toblerone which technically I didn’t even buy – Tom bought me the weekend before when he came back home! If you want a Toblerone cupcake, carry on reading!
