This week was caramel week on the Great British Bake Off and I was intrigued to see what the technical challenge would be. I didn’t watch it live but Becky text me after it finished and asked if I fancied buying an ice cream waffle cone maker – I was intrigued! Since neither of us own one, and Becky said she wouldn’t use it (it’s a bit hard to make them gluten free) I said I was happy to buy it but asked her to order it for me since I was away and worried it wouldn’t arrive in time. When I got back on Thursday it was waiting for me! Click here to see how I got on.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis week was bread week on the Great British Bake Off and it was another great episode! I don’t bake much bread as Rich can’t really have gluten, so I was a bit nervous about doing this weeks technical challenge. I was relieved to see it looked like a simple loaf to make, or so I thought. Click  here to see how I got on.

In a mad rush yesterday I thought I would try and squeeze in this weeks technical challenge before we went away on holiday and it meant that we had some baked goodies to eat while we’re away. Click here to see how I got on making the fortune cookies.

P9023101.JPGWe are both very excited that the Great British Bake Off has started again! And despite the move to Channel 4 we were pleased to see that the format is exactly the same and although we miss Mary Berry, Mel and Sue, the new presenters did a great job. So it’s now time to start trying all the technical bakes again! It has got off to a good start, chocolate mini rolls looked like a great challenge and something I haven’t made before. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt was our parents 40th wedding anniversary on the 30th July so not surprisingly Em and I decided to make them a cake as a present! Celebrating 40 years of marriage is a wonderful occasion, so it had to be a very special cake for two very special people. Click here to see some more pics and the yummy chocolate fruit cake recipe we used.

Silhouette Wedding Cake

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s been a while since Em and added something new to our page, but we’ve still been busy doing plenty of baking! A couple of weeks ago my friends James and Amelia got married and I was thrilled to be asked to make their wedding cake for them. It’s great to be asked to make a cake that’s completely different from anything I’ve done before, so I was very excited when James and Amelia found a photo of a silhouette wedding cake that they really liked. Click here to see some more pictures of this cake.

Last weekend I got to make a christening cake for my niece, Emily. Becky sent me a photo of a cake she’d seen on Pinterest and asked if I could make something similar. Click here to keep reading.

Peanut Butter Drip Cake

It was my Birthday last week and I can’t think of a better way to spend the day than baking myself a cake! I don’t often get to bake exactly what I want, the cakes I usually do are for customers, so it’s really enjoyable to find a new recipe and experiment with some new designs. I am a peanut butter addict, so when I saw this recipe in Olive magazine, I had to make it! Click here for the scrummy recipe.

Iced Vanilla Biscuits

The best way to use up left over cake decorations is to do some more baking! I have a pot filled with left over flowers of various shapes, sizes and colours, so I picked out these ones to create some elegant biscuits! I usually use a biscuit recipe from the Biscuiteers Book of Iced Biscuits as they are always tasty and have the perfect texture. Click  here to try their vanilla biscuit recipe.

Owl Woodland Cake

Last year was a busy year and I didn’t get round to uploading photos of most of the cakes I baked. October and November were especially busy – with Emily’s 1st Birthday too. We had a small family party on the weekend of her Birthday and I made a baby friendly cake to eat – chocolate and beetroot. I wanted to do something woodland or owl themed and something where all the decorations could be made in advance, so this design was perfect. I had seen an idea on Pinterest and added some extras and changed a few things to make it fit the theme of the party. Click here to see more details of this cake and the yummy recipe.
